Filtration helps control quality in a couple of ways with starch.
First is to prevent variability in starch make-down and converting equipment. In steam converted starch operations, filtration prevents clogging of steam chamber orifices.
Second is to prevent orifice plugging downstream to maintain proper concentration. If an orifice becomes plugged and concentration decreases, off-quality paper will be produced.
For starch, we typically recommend the AFR Automatic Backwashing Filter or the DCF Series Mechanically-Cleaned Filter Systems.
